It started some twenty years before Random rescinded the throne. Random and Vialle had a particularly awful argument, and Random was doomed to spend the night and perhaps the week sleeping on the Royal couch. Séra was in the kitchen, working late in preparation for a formal meal the next evening. Random, stumbling into the kitchen in search of a snack, bumped in to Séra. They got to talking, and Séra gave Random some advice (and a platter of chocolate-covered fruit as a peace offering) which cooled the argument off. To show his gratitude, Random gave Séraphine a hand-crank phonograph and a collection of vinyl records from one of his stays on Shadow Earth. The records:

She was also given several classical music records: Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Mussorgshy, Grieg, Liszt and so on. Though she really likes them, she is not as fond of them as she is the rock albums.
