The Crew of the Death Maiden
Saeger, John D.
Captain Enlisted in the US Air Force straight out of high school and trained to fly both atmospheric and outer space capable craft. Most of the action he saw during his 12 years of service was centered in the Middle East. There, he made a name for himself piloting on daring reconnaissance and recovery missions, earning the nickname "Suicide Jack". After a near-fatal crash he left the military for life as a civilian pilot. He took jobs flying commercial airliners and cargo ships with destinations both on and off-planet. Ten years and a ruined marriage later, he had saved up enough to throw in with his frequent First Mate, Jasper Aldous to buy a ship and start their own salvage/cargo business. |

Aldous, Jasper C. First mate Born in the largest, oldest -- and most crowded -- colony on Earth's moon, Jasper's first real interest was in getting the hell out of there. He dropped out of school, immediately signed on with a freighter leaving Port Armstrong, and since has only made fleeting visits to his previous home. He earned his piloting license by accumulating hours at the helm of the various freighters on which he served as a mate and eventually taking and passing the exam at the minimum required age of sixteen. Together with "Cappy" Saeger, he is half owner of the Death Maiden and works as her First Mate and radio/electronics man. |

Bender, Martin I.
Salvage Officer An army brat of sorts, Marty was born on a medical frigate and didn't set foot on terra firma until he was five years old. His world limited to space stations and the less-than-child-friendly environment of the ship on which his parents were stationed, he acted up frequently, spending time detained in his parents' quarters and later in the even smaller confines of the Nightengale's brig. An officer saw potential in Martin's mean streak and had him enrolled in the on-board Youth Officer Training Corps, where he learned to focus his anger, boredom and frustration in a positive direction -- kicking the crap out of people. At seventeen, population limits forced him to make the choice to leave the ship or join it as a member of the crew. He left in a hurry, becoming a part of the respected -- and feared -- Nebula Company, a division of Marines with roving operations in several systems. After nearly three decades of service -- half of it spent in cryo-pods traveling between missions -- he sustained injuries that forced his retirement with an honorable discharge. He serves as the official "do-man" of the ship; mechanic, muscle and alternate pilot. |

Jai, Mani NMI
Salvage Officer The youngest child of a software engineer and a leading expert in the field of propulsion, Mani grew up with a profound interest in science and technology. He attended Hawking University on his homeworld of New Tangier, earning himself degrees in both computer science and propulsion, hoping to do his parents proud. Unfortunately, when he hit the job market he found that majors in both fields were a dime a dozen on N. Tangier, forcing him to spend several years working as a programmer and mechanic; not exactly the realization of his lofty goals. Never having left N. Tangier, or even his home state, he signed on with the Maiden for a little adventure. Not to mention the money. |

Pierson, Regina L. Salvage Officer Always ahead of her class, Reggie was a natural at all things academic. Her chosen field was medicine, due more to her fascination with the subject than a real desire to help people. She was accepted at a prestigious medical school off-planet, receiving remarkable grades for her first year. Unfortunately her first year was her only year. Her family's business went bankrupt and she was unable to find a job that would pay enough for tuition. She now serves as the Death Maiden's physician despite her status as a first-year med student. |

Rasco, Laila M.
Salvage Officer Laila's parents were brought to New Tangier by the Anodyne Corporation as cheap labor, forced to pay for their passage with a portion of their earnings. They had little to live on, constantly scraping until her parents' death shortly after her twelfth birthday. She was left with nothing but the few possessions they hadn't sold off in order to survive. Too young to work for the company, she was paid under the table working for laundries, restaurants and hotels. By the time she was seventeen, she had worked her way northward and taken a job dancing at "The Desert Rose", Port Safi's most famous nightclub. |
